Our history...
The Interfaith Community of Schenectady was established on November 17, 1971. It is the first organization in New York State to encourage membership of diverse religious organizations and institutions. Our goal is to foster dialogue and create better understanding among groups of different faiths. Membership is open to all individuals, churches, synagogues, mosques, temples , congregations and institutions. Interfaith Community is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization primarily financed through individual and institutional memberships, charitable bequests and donations.
Our activities...
IFC of Schenectady sponsors six to eight Virtual Program Gatherings per year. These programs are on a multitude of topics regarding interfaith efforts, current events, social issues and more. We have brought and continue to bring outstanding lecturers, clergy and speakers to the Schenectady area. These virtual meetings are hosted on Zoom.
IFC supports the chaplaincy program at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center.
IFC publishes about 4-6 newsletters a year.
IFC recognized outstanding interfaith and community service by awarding the James Stamper Community Service and Robert & Dorothy Ludwig Interfaith Award annually.
In the "pre-Covid world", IFC sponsored dinner gatherings, an annual Interfaith Friendship Celebration and other events. Beginning in the fall of 2020, we have moved to virtual program gatherings.
